Do I ever love a long necklace! Especially one that I can wear a couple different ways. All of these necklaces can be worn long or doubled with an "S" hook that keeps the necklace in place (so the shorter strand stays put, instead of getting tighter and needing re-adjusting... it's genius ;-) The image of a quatrefoil long pre-dates Van Cleef & Arpels, and can be found in medieval architecture (like on the buttresses of Notre Dame in Paris dating back to 1260). It can be pronounced "KAT-er-foil" or "KA-truh-foil." I prefer the second, more French, version. The design lends itself to variations, and there are shorter and longer lengths available in a variety of gemstones. The elegant longer beads are potentially vulnerable to breakage, so you may want to choose the shorter length if you know you're a bit "rigorous" with your jewelry. I'm always creating new variations of this design, and may also be able to accommodate special requests.  

A new variation on a classic. It is always a delight to discover something magical about jewelry. This combination of 139 carats of grey chalcedony and 48 carats of Botswana agate seems to be just that. The long chalcedony beads vary only in their degrees of translucency, while each of the round Botswana agate beads has a unique subtle banded pattern. The more you look, the more you see. At first glance, the mix of grey tones may seem too subdued to be truly exciting, but where the magic comes in is that this necklace morphs into an elegant complement to everything that I've put it with.
